The hits keep right on coming, folks. We added a handful of beers to our list this week already–a few brand new ones, and a few returns–so see below to learn more:
De Dolle Brouwers Oerbier – 330ml, $9.50
De Dolle is one of the most idiosyncratic brewers in the world, and one of our favorites. Operating out of a tiny space in the Belgian town of Essen, they produce limited amounts of just a handful of beers, all characterized by near-flawless execution. Oerbier, a dark strong ale, is something of a flagship beer for them: it is very smooth, with flavors of bitter chocolate, date, cherry, and toffee. 9% abv
Mystic Letters After Z – 750ml, $22
Massachusetts’ Mystic Brewing specialize in clean, true-to-style Belgian ales, and Letters After Z could be said to embody that spirit. A tart table-strength saison, this is an endlessly drinkable beer, with loads of fresh lemon and wildflower notes, undercut by a quick, snappy finish. 3.6% abv
Stillwater/Against the Grain Rio Sauvin – 650ml, $16
Considering the two breweries involved here, Rio Sauvin is a relatively straightforward beer: a farmhouse-style ale with mango and passion fruit juice, it is full-bodied for the style, with lots of tropical notes and complementary hops.
Urban Family Limesicle – 500ml, $15
This one’s a little nutty. The base beer begins as an IPA with Motueka hops, but the addition of lime, vanilla, and lactose make this something else entirely. Sort of like a…limesicle beer. Oh…ha. We get it now.
