3 Sheeps Tap Takeover
November 18, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We love 3 Sheeps here at Brasserie V, and we’re excited and honored to host the brewery again for a tap takeover. We’ve got some cool, limited, can’t-get-’em-anymore goodies for you, and co-owner James Owen will be on hand to discuss the beers, hand out schwag, and just generally be a cool dude. What’s pouring? Glad you asked:
Midnight Bourbon – Imperial Black Wheat Ale aged on bourbon barrels w/ Belgian yeast. (10% abv)
Some of the Brasserie V staff got to try this beer a few weeks ago at a distributor trade show prior to its Madison release. A few of us didn’t plan well, and started off the night with a pour of this beer. It was one of the best of the event, and all but ruined us for every other beer we tasted that night. Essentially an imperial stout, the wheat actually helps lighten the body of the beer, with the bourbon character and Belgian yeast combining to throw off an intense flavor combination that hints at vanilla cotton candy.
Paid Time Off – Imperial Black Wheat Ale w/toasted coconut, cocoa nibs, and walnuts. (10% abv)
This beer is mostly gone from shelves at this point, but we held onto a keg for just the right occasion. YOU’RE WELCOME. This beer, straight up, tastes like a liquefied combination of pecan pie and German chocolate cake. What more do you want from me?
Hoedown – Imperial Black Wheat Ale w/cherries, chipotle, and ancho chiles. (10% abv)
If nothing else, 3 Sheeps understands potent flavor combinations, and if you’ve ever had a chocolate bar with little flecks of chile or dried cherries in it, then you’ll know where this beer is coming from. Once again, the imperial black wheat base runs point here, tying several assertive ingredients deftly together. Only a mild, pleasant heat lingers, allowing the sweeter elements to shine.
Oakey Doke – IPA w/ French oak, American oak, and yellow birch. (7.3% abv)
Though 3 Sheeps brewed this as an IPA, the addition of three different types of wood treatment render Oakey Doke somewhat closer to an IPA/barleywine hybrid. The hops are still very present, with the tropical fruit notes enlivened by the yellow birch staves, but the French and American oak lend sweet vanilla and toffee notes.
Goselayheehoo -Gose; what else? (4% abv)
OF COURSE 3 Sheeps brewed a gose. If you know and love the style, this one is right up your alley: the brewery’s most traditionally-minded beer, this mild wheat ale is soured with lactobacillus, the spiked with coriander and orange peel. A very refreshing beer, and a great palate cleanser for their bigger, burlier offerings.
Gin-Barrel Really Cool Waterslides – IPA w/gin-soaked oak chips. (6.2% abv)
Bourbon barrels get most of the press, but brewers are constantly experimenting with off-kilter, unexpected barrel and wood treatments. For this project, oak chips soaked in gin were thrown into the mix, adding fruity notes of juniper and off-sweet herbs to 3 Sheeps’ piney, grapefruity flagship IPA. One of the only kegs, ever.
We’ll also have a limited amount of 3 Sheeps glassware to hand out, so get here early!
