SUMMARY:Rare & New Arrivals Beer Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Join owner Matt and Certified Cicerone Josh Ruffin this coming Thursday night for a sneak peek at some of Brasserie V’s newest top-shelf bottles! \n  \nThe full list will be posted here shortly\, so watch this space! In the meantime\, here’s what we’ve got so far: \nMikkeller HUES – Lambic/Gueuze-style Ale – Denmark – 5% ABV \nA spontaneously fermented golden ale\, this beer was then aged on Hungarian oak barrels. It is intensely vinous\, with hints of vintage cider\, spice\, and star anise. Mikkel tends to nail his wild ales\, and this one is no exception. \nLa Choulette Framboise – Raspberry Wild Ale/Saison – France – 6.2% ABV \nA saison/biere de garde brewed with fresh raspberries. Somewhere between a framboise and a farmhouse ale\, this beer is unsweetened and rustic\, with flavors of wild farm air\, tart raspberry\, and earthy grain. \nThe Monarchy Methusalem Holunderheimer – Strong Altbier – Germany – 10% ABV \nThe Monarchy is one of Germany’s most outstanding new breweries\, and is run by a group of people who understand that\, to go forward\, sometimes you have to go back. Hence their Methusalem\, a strong altbier–in this case\, actually an “Adambier.” A style original to Dortmunder\, it’s a strong\, top-fermented beer that is fruity\, smoky\, and vinous all at once. This special version has elderberries added for a little extra tart punch! \nTrou du Diable Mellifera – Honey Saison w/Lactic Fermentation – Canada – 5% ABV \nSpeaking of innovative\, Trou du Diable has been cranking out some of our favorite beers here at Brasserie V for a few years now\, and they especially shine in the farmhouse game. This one’s a little off-center: brewed with honey and sent through a lactic fermentation\, it is sweet and acidic\, with a sort of lemon-lime feel to it. Sound bizarre? Come see for yourself. \nAmager/Jester King Danish Metal – Imperial Stout – Denmark – 10% ABV \nThe Jester King crew flew out to Denmark to brew a special batch of their Black Metal\, a British imperial stout. The beer that came out was similar but\, in the words of Amager\, “with a Danish twist.” Unfortunately\, the brew-day was the day after the Copenhagen Beer Festival\, so they’re not really sure what the “twist” actually was. Considering the pedigree involved\, however\, we’ll assume that it’s…pretty good? Yeah\, we’ll go with that. \nEvil Twin Aun Mas Cafe Jesus – Imperial Stout – Brooklyn/Spain – 12% ABV \nLike most Evil Twins\, this one requires some backstory. Owner/brewer Jeppe went out to Spain’s Companyia Cervesera del Montseny to brew a beer approximating his infamous Even More Jesus\, a massive\, fudge-like imperial stout. He dubbed the beer Aun Mas Jesus\, because he’s weird. THEN\, he brewed a special batch with some fine\, top-shelf coffee. The rabbit hole goes deeper\, but I’m done. \nPanil Barriquee 2006 – Sour Red/Brown – Italy – 8% ABV \nWe’ve made no bones here at Brasserie V about our unabashed love for the slobberingly great beers coming out of Italy right now. Panil\, especially\, is doing some great things with sour beers\, and this is probably their best. A triple-fermented sour brown ale\, it conditions in cognac barrels for three months\, before additional aging in the bottle. These bottles are almost ten years old\, so we’re not sure what to expect out of them\, but if the aging tendencies of the style play out here\, you can count on some present yet reserved tartness\, more wine character\, dark fruits\, and sherry. \n\n
