A Beer, A Bite and A Brewery – Lunch with St. Bernardus
May 1 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
We are kicking off a new tasting series called A Beer, A Bite and A Brewery, and couldn’t think of a better brewery for the inaugural event than St. Bernardus. We hope you will join us for a virtual Meet and Greet with our longtime friend Marco Passarella, Sales and Marketing Manager at St. Bernardus. He will join us from Watou, Belgium via Zoom, and give us a virtual tour and history of the brewery, walk us through tasting notes of St. Bernardus Abt 12, and take your Q&A.
Tickets are $45, and include:
- A four-pack of St Bernardus beer, including Extra 4, Prior 8, Tripel and Abt 12
- A St. Bernardus goblet
- An order of Belgian meatballs: Chef Chris starts with Stoneface Pastures pork and Seven Seeds Farm beef, and adds caramelized onion and mushrooms, all in a St. Bernardus cream sauce. We will include reheat instructions so you can enjoy them during the Zoom.
- Zoom code for an exclusive Meet and Greet with Marco
- Brasserie Y jpeg backgrounds so you can customize your Zoom experience
Event materials will be available for pickup the week of April 27. We will set up a number of specific curbside pickup time-frames, and send out a signup link to all who register for the event.
You must be over 21 to purchase a ticket. IDs will be checked at event material pickup.
Purchase tickets here before April 30, or while they last.
About the beers:
Abt 12 (10.0% ABV)
St. Bernardus Abt 12 is a traditional abbey ale brewed in the classic style of Belgium’s Trappist Monks. It is almost ebony in color, smooth, creamy and full-bodied with big richness of texture that is almost oily and very assertive, like a warming coconut brandy.
Extra 4 (4.8% ABV)
When the brewery was founded in 1946 to brew and commercialize the beers of the Trappist Monks of Westvletern, the brewery received 4 beers from them: Abt 12, Prior 8, Pater 6 and Extra 4. In the ’70s this ‘Enkel’ or ‘Single’ style went out of fashion and the production of Extra 4 was discontinued. Originally, the Extra was brewed by the Monks for their own consumption, but this beer is seldom sold in Belgium or abroad.
Prior 8 (8.0% ABV)
St. Bernardus Prior 8 is a traditional abbey ale brewed in the classic “Dubbel” style of Belgium’s Trappist Monks. It has a ruby to purple color, smooth, creamy richness of texture that is almost oily, and a malt-fruit complexity reminiscent of coconut.
Tripel (8.0% ABV)
St. Bernardus Tripel is a traditional abbey ale brewed in the classic “Triple” style of Belgium’s Trappist Monks. It has a pale amber color with a wonderful head, slightly sweet aroma of rosewater, and the orangey-grassy flavors of Styrian hops in the finish.
